Creating a good content for the Internet is a lot of hard work. There is just no doubt about it. An author needs to invest a lot of time and effort before he or she can come up with a good content for his or her blog. And it is in no way fair that someone else gets the credit for something someone else has put his heart to.
Most often it is seen that content over the Internet gets copied and posted in several other blogs. It might happen knowingly or unknowingly. But, whatever may be the case it is wrong. Not only does it hamper the ranking of the original content site but also may drive a lot of traffic to the other site, without giving any benefit to the original blog post itself. Thus, to deal with all these I have come up with a list of things you can do to avoid these kind of incidents with your posts.
Also quite often, it happens that the owner of the original posts is not even aware that his or her content is being stolen and is being used to rank someone else’s website. So, it is a must that owners remain vigilant at all times if you want to to reap the fruit that you have sowed.
Now, before we head towards the list of ” How you can remove copied content from the Web ? ” It would be better if you understood certain things.
Firstly, you need to understand what ” theft of content ” actually is. If someone is using the material in your article as a reference to construct his or her own post. Then that wont be considered as theft.
But, if the other person is just coping the exact lines from your blog post and content. Then that can be termed as theft of content and you can take up the required measures.
Secondly, most often it happens that some other blog would want to showcase a part of your article or say an original picture belonging to your post in his or her post too. In such cases if they have just put up your picture or content on their website. Then, you can either ask them to link that picture to your website or ask them to remove it from their page. And if they deny that, then you can simply go for the steps as I will be discussing below.
So, now without any further delay let us look into :
The 3 amazing tools to Find and Remove copied content from the Web
Before, we go about the four different tools to help you find and remove copied content let us talk about how you can remove copied content from Google, since this is most popular and most used search engines till date.
This method will only be applicable for search results in Google itself. For other search engine results you have to refer to the other tools I am going to mention below.
Now, how to know and decide if your content is being copied or not. It is actually very simple. To be simple it is one of the simplest way to detect content theft. What you need to do is simply go to the Google search bar – then copy and paste a part of your content, say a paragraph into the search bar – you need to do this within inverted commas – thus telling google to be more specific in the search – After you have done that, you will have many such results for your particular search – From the search results look whether your content has been copied by any of the listed sites.
If not then you don’t have anything to worry about. But, if yes then you should head straight to the method coming up next below.
Now, from the above picuture you can see that I have taken a small paragraph into consideration. After that when I paste this paragraph within inverted commas inside the search bar, it will just list me my site if the content has not been copied by any other website.
Also, there is Copyscape, which lets you detect for any copied content. You just need to pur in your own URL in Copyscape’s search bar and it will list out all the similar websites that may have used yur content. But, most of the time it may just have a few headings or keywords in common. For which you obviously cannot make a big fuss.
Otherwise you can just stick to the conventional Google Quotation search method.
If you have found any site to have copied your content than you should go for the following.
Go to Google’s Legal Removal Request page and from the Submit a Legal Request down the page select the tool option, which will take you to the page as shown below. After you reach that page select the particular Google platform from where you want the content removed. And check in the required options thereafter. On the first option under Removing Content from Google option select the ” I have a legal issue that is not mentioned above ” and then select the ” I have found content that may violate my copyright “.
After all this you will get a link to a form depending upon the type of Google product you have chosen earlier. Here you need to fill in your information along with the identity of your copyrighted work. Also you need to provide the link of the website which you believe have copied your content and than just push on the Submit button.
And that is just about all of the work you need to do on your part. The rest will be taken care off by Google. It might take a little time but you will seen see the results.
Although this method is only applicable in case of Google products. But, it is still one of the most easiest and efficient way to remove copied content from the web. From atleast 50 % of the Web.
· Who is hosting This
Well it is always better to find the very source of a problem, if you want to completely eradicate the problem from your life. The same goes in the case of copied content.
When you know about which hosting service is actually hosting a certain website copying your content. Then you can very well take care of the problem by just making a complaint to such hosting services and giving information about you and your blog that says you are the legit creator of the content that has been posted elsewhere without your consent. In doing so, most often the complete web page is removed by the hosting service without any further wastage of time.
WhoIsHostingThis? provides you with just those details of the hosting service for the paticular website. Thus, making your life a lot easier.
· Google Alerts
Well Google brings you another easy yet effective tool for keeping track and handling such copied content. Although it is maily a tool for monitoring the Internet for Interesting new content and information. This tool can also be used for putting a check on content repeated over several other websites. Thus, letting you know where your content might get copied and posted elsewhere.
What you need to do is simply go to the alert bar section. Type in the phrase or portion of content from your original post and select the categories and suggestions listed below, which you might think can hold that particular type of information. Also you need to mention which Email address you want to get notified upon and choose the frequency at which you want to get notified. You can go for a weekly basis or a monthly basis or even a daily basis. And depending upon this filtered choices, you will get notified accordingly.
Although Copyscape is not one of my personal favourites. Still we cannot completely deny this content review tool. Well Copyscape pretty much works like the Google Quotation method as discussed earlier. But, unlike the Google method. Copyscape also provides you with search results with links to websites which may or may not have the exact content copied on their website. It takes in a lot of parameters into consideration such as Topic heading, repeated keywords, Subheadings and so on. Thus, making it a bit hectic to work with. Otherwise it is a great tool to filter out websites which may hold your content with them. It is just an extra precaution you can go for.
The premium version of Copyscape comes with a number of features such as checking whether the content is original or not, Automatic plagiarism alerts and so on. So if you go with the premium version of Copyscape you might have a lot of service at your plate to opt from.
I hope these tools provide you with the assistance you require. If you have more such tools that you have tried and found useful feel free to share with us.
